Tutoring session last week from Italy: Third European country in the past two years

Tutoring Session from Italy: March 2023

When I started one of my tutoring sessions last week, I saw hello to the student and realized that he was not in the usual tutoring location.

He said, "I am in Italy."

I knew about his family's ties to Italy, and he was spending his spring break there with family. What was amazing about it was the the reception was better from Italy than it was from the U.S.

So, we had another good tutoring session, this time from Europe, but this was not the first time.

Two years ago, I tutored a young student who was a native of France but had immigrated to the U.S. as a child. She was entering grad school and wanted me to help her write her admissions essays. She was a joy to work with, and I had two sessions with her.

That same year, I tutored a woman from Moscow. She is a native of Russia and had immigrated to the U.S. with her husband, who is an academic. She was taking a college course related to Pennsylvania history, and her professor was not as forthcoming as she would have liked. I tutored her for a few weeks, but only once from Moscow.

In addition, I have had numerous students from Canada.

Two of those students were English Second Language (ESL), and I have worked with many of them. They often speak well but have problems with writing and grammar. I am not certain exactly why that is from a technical standpoint, but I do know that with some work, they can learn the rudiments of the English language with some patience and some work.

I have also worked a graduate student who is a native of Ukraine, but those sessions were from the U.S.

Amazing what technology can do.
